ChatGPT Pricing 2026: Free, Go, Plus and Pro Compared
ChatGPT costs $0 on Free, $8 a month on Go, $20 on Plus and $100 to $500 on Pro. Here is what each plan includes in 2026, from models and limits to ads, storage and Codex.
Key takeaways
- ChatGPT has four personal plans: Free ($0), Go ($8 a month), Plus ($20) and Pro, which comes in three sizes at $100, $200 and $500 a month.
- Free and Go run on GPT-6 Luna and may show ads. Plus is the cheapest plan with GPT-6 Sol, Codex, ChatGPT Work and no ads.
- Business costs $25 per user a month ($20 billed yearly). The API is billed separately per token and is not included in any subscription.
ChatGPT pricing changed a lot in 2026: a worldwide $8 Go plan, ads on the free tier, three Pro sizes and GPT-6 in every plan. This guide lists every ChatGPT plan with its US price and what you actually get for it, from model access to context length, storage and Codex limits. All prices were checked on OpenAI’s official pricing and help pages on 4 November 2026.
ChatGPT plans and prices at a glance

| Enterprise | Custom | All models | No | Large companies with compliance needs |
Personal plans are billed monthly. Only Business and Enterprise offer yearly billing. Sources: chatgpt.com/pricing and openai.com/business/pricing.
ChatGPT Free: what you get for $0
The free plan gives unlimited everyday text chats with GPT-6 Luna, OpenAI’s lightweight GPT-6 model, within abuse guardrails. File uploads, image generation, voice and data analysis each have their own smaller limits. Deep research, Codex and ChatGPT Work (desktop only) are included in limited amounts, and you get projects and 500 MB of file storage.
Two trade-offs matter. The context window is 27K tokens, about 12 pages, so long documents get cut. And since February 2026 OpenAI shows ads to free users in the US, later extended to Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the UK. An ads-free option exists, but it lowers your limits and removes image generation and deep research.
ChatGPT Go: the $8 plan
ChatGPT Go launched worldwide on 16 January 2026 at $8 a month in the US, with local prices in some countries. It is monthly only. Go keeps the GPT-6 Luna model but adds a Think option for harder questions, longer context (54K tokens, or 256K when reasoning), 4 GB of storage, and higher limits for images, uploads and data analysis. Voice mode gets three hours per rolling 24 hours.
What Go does not include is the reason most people pay $20 instead: no GPT-6 Sol or GPT-6 Astra, only limited Codex and deep research, no image generation with Thinking, no Sites, and ads may still appear.
ChatGPT Plus: the $20 standard plan
ChatGPT Plus costs $20 a month ($19.99 through the US App Store) and is the plan most people mean when they talk about paying for ChatGPT. It switches your chat model to GPT-6 Sol and gives limited access to GPT-6.1 Sol and GPT-6 Astra, expanded access to the GPT-5.6 models, and the legacy models.
- Codex and ChatGPT Work on desktop, web and mobile.
- Deep research, image generation with Thinking, Sites, developer mode and the Office add-ins.
- Voice: three hours of GPT-Live-1.1.
- 20 GB of storage and a 54K / 256K token context window.
- No ads, and extra credits you can buy when you run out.
How many Codex messages does Plus include?
OpenAI publishes Codex and Work allowances as a range per five hours, because a long task uses more than a short one:
| Model | Local messages per 5 hours on Plus |
|---|---|
| GPT-6 Astra | 5–45 |
| GPT-6.1 Sol | 15–160 |
| GPT-6 Sol | 15–150 |
| GPT-6.1 Terra | 35–285 |
| GPT-6 Luna | 350–3,000 |

ChatGPT Pro: $100, $200 or $500 a month
Pro now comes in three sizes: Pro 100 (added in April 2026), Pro 200 and Pro 500 (added in September 2026). All three are billed monthly and include:
- Pro reasoning on GPT-6 Astra and expanded GPT-6 limits, with unlimited GPT-5.6 use within guardrails.
- Longer context: 128K tokens, or 400K when reasoning (about 680 pages).
- Codex without a five-hour limit, although weekly limits may apply.
- Maximum deep research, unlimited and faster image generation, and 100 GB of storage.
- Voice: 15 hours on Pro 100 and unlimited on Pro 200.
- Monthly API credits since 28 October 2026: $100, $200 or $500, matching the plan.
Pro 500 adds Ultrafast mode for GPT-6 Astra and GPT-6.1 Sol, which uses your allowance eight times faster. For most people Pro 100 is the sensible upgrade from Plus; the bigger sizes are for developers running Codex agents all day.
ChatGPT Go vs Plus: which one to buy?
| Feature | Go ($8) | Plus ($20) |
|---|---|---|
| Chat model | GPT-6 Luna + Think | GPT-6 Sol, limited GPT-6.1 Sol and Astra |
| Context window | 54K / 256K reasoning | 54K / 256K reasoning |
| Codex and Work | Limited, Work on desktop only | Included on desktop, web and mobile |
| Deep research | Limited | Included |
| Image generation with Thinking | No | Yes |
| Storage | 4 GB | 20 GB |
| Ads | May appear | No |
Choose Go if you mainly chat, write and upload files and want more than the free plan for little money. Choose Plus if you need the stronger model, use Codex for code, or rely on deep research for work or study.
ChatGPT Business and Enterprise pricing
ChatGPT Business, called Team until August 2025, starts at two seats. A Standard seat costs $25 per user per month, or $20 billed yearly. A Premium seat costs $125 per month, or $100 billed yearly, and gives more Codex and Work usage with no five-hour limit. Business adds SAML single sign-on, shared projects, and a promise that workspace data is not used to train models. Since 28 October each seat also brings pooled API credits: $20 per Standard seat and $100 per Premium seat, capped at $500 a month.
Enterprise has custom pricing based on credits or tokens, adds SCIM, key management, the Compliance API and data residency in 10 regions, and can be paid by invoice. Education pricing is by quote, and ChatGPT for Teachers is free for verified US K–12 teachers until June 2027. Nonprofits can get up to 75% off Business or Enterprise.
ChatGPT pricing outside the US
OpenAI bills in 67 currencies and warns that local prices may differ from a straight conversion of the US price, so Go and Plus can be cheaper in some markets. It also accepts local payment methods for personal plans, according to its billing help article:
- India: UPI for Go and Plus.
- Brazil: Pix. Indonesia: GoPay. Philippines: GCash. Vietnam: MoMo.
- South Korea: Kakao Pay and Naver Pay. UK and EEA: bank debit through Link.
Subscriptions bought in the iOS or Android app are billed by Apple or Google in your local currency and cancelled through the store. Taxes depend on your country.
OpenAI API costs vs a ChatGPT subscription
A ChatGPT plan does not include the OpenAI API (Pro and Business get a monthly API credit, but it is a separate allowance). API calls are billed per token, with a monthly budget you set. Current prices for the main GPT-6 models, per 1 million tokens:
| Model | Input | Cached input | Output |
|---|---|---|---|
| GPT-6 Astra | $10 | $1 | $50 |
| GPT-6.1 Sol | $2 | $0.10 | $10 |
| GPT-6.1 Terra | $1 | $0.05 | $5 |
| GPT-6 Luna | $0.10 | $0.01 | $0.50 |
Prices are for prompts under 272K tokens; the Batch API halves them. Source: openai.com/api/pricing. For chatting, a subscription is almost always cheaper. The API makes sense when you build your own app or run tools such as Cursor or Cline on your own key.

Paying for ChatGPT Plus with crypto
OpenAI takes cards and a handful of local wallets, but no crypto. If that is a problem for you, AITopUp sells ChatGPT Plus paid in USDT or other crypto, with a 30-day warranty. At the time of writing there are two options:
- Shared Account · Plus, from $5.99 for one month and cheaper per month on 3, 6 or 12 months. You get the login of a Plus account shared by 2 to 4 people, so it suits chatting and studying, not private or sensitive work.
- Private Account · Plus, $17.99 for one month. Your own ChatGPT email is invited into a Business workspace with Plus-level access, so your chats stay private and Codex works.
For developers who would rather pay per use, a Codex API key covers OpenAI’s coding models as a prepaid token pack. If you are weighing Claude as well, see our guide to the Claude Code subscription plans.
Which ChatGPT plan is worth it?
Stay on Free if ChatGPT is an occasional search replacement and the ads do not bother you. Go is worth $8 if you hit the free limits on uploads and images but do not need a stronger model. For most regular users, Plus at $20 is the plan that pays for itself: GPT-6 Sol, deep research, Codex and no ads. Move to Pro 100 only when the Plus limits stop you working every day. And if the price is the real issue, our list of ChatGPT alternatives covers free and cheaper assistants worth trying.
